Simmonds' Ad--"I hate growth." attracts big dollars.

by Ed Martin

The Citizens for Quality Government, (perhaps more aptly, Citizens for the Best City Council Money Can Buy), has raised almost $16,000 by October 16th to help this growth hater. Their expenditure report details more than $10,000 in expenditures for ads, etc.  Presumably for Simmonds, since none of their other choices has an opponent.

Developers and friends who love a candidate who hates growth include Mike Miller, $500, Tim Miller $250, their attorneys - the Boone Law Firm, $500, and Joseph Filippelli of Sembler Corporation, a builder of shopping centers based in St. Petersburg.  I guess Simmonds must hate shopping centers, too.   Arrow Environmental in Sarasota chipped in $500,  (perhaps Simmonds hates grubs in the city hall lawn).  His service as liaison to the airport is appreciated by the Venice Jet Center, $300, and Triple Diamond Enterprises.  A recent appraisal report suggested that the airport was not charging market rates for various services--happened while Simmonds was on duty for council as well as earlier.

Ho Hum, with "A little help from my friends," maybe it can be business as usual.  Or maybe Ernie Zavodnyik can be elected and Venice can do better.
