Dumb Growth Decision by County Commissioners Shows Need for Super Majority
Super majority amendment would prevent dumb growth approvals like this by county commission yesterday

Miller Hints at Lowering Tra Ponti. Council Changes Tune on Village at Venice Project.
Developer Mike Miller showed drawings that will be part of a future workshop process, indicating cuts in the size of buildings in his Tra Ponti Project. He also suggested starting over would take more time than having the workshops under the current quasi-judicial format.

It happened while City council wrestled with how to conduct workshops on the Tra Ponti project: 1) continuing the process of delay they agreed upon at the last meeting, or 2) ending that delay, bringing the proje

Gondo Editorial Takes Incumbents "to the Woodshed."
The Rotary/Sertoma candidate forum turned ugly when the incumbents, Hammett, Woods and Willson spent their time "bad mouthing" the challengers, not accurately as it turns out. The Gondo editorial helps the public see the situation clearly.

Citizens Outraged by Walmart Proposal, Ask Denial
This is a long letter petitioning the Planning Commission to turn down the Walmart proposal which was never discussed when the Renaissance was approved, with a variety of exceptions and 60+heights.

If you care about Venice, and about what is becoming a "Tale of Two Cities," one of which, North Venice is threatening to become a nightmare. Read to the end and make your mind up about this proposal.

I expect even this commission, which has seldom, if ever, seen a developm

The Village Discussion Arouses Bill Willson, But Does Not Enlighten Him
In a reply to John Patten, www.ven.fl.com, Willson took exception to my characterization of the villages being an inducement to build to greater heights.
Says Patten, “Willson objected strongly to Martin's characterization, stating that the areas targeted as potential villages have long ago been zoned to allow for taller structures (that are not there yet), and that pushing for lower height caps in those areas would involve an unlawful taking of "air rights" that the city would have t

City’s Comprehensive Plan Amendments Fail State Review
In a 16 page document citing weakness after weakness the Florida Department of Community Affairs sent the Venice Comprehensive Plan update back to the city for significant changes, highlighting areas raised in a number of cases by citizens and the media, but ignored as the city council approved, with virtually no questioning or analysis, the submission of the plan to the State. As with the recent airport and commercial mixed use controversies, the council has failed to study and analyze staff ef
