Some New Best Bytes-Try Them, You’ll Like Them
FlapJacks.
I read an ad in one of the circulars that come in the mail and I felt it was clever and it appealed to me. The ad was composed by the chef/owner, Jim, and he began by asking why he had to be in the restaurant at 5 a.m. or so as I recall. He then provided a long list of items that were homemade, soups, meatloaf, batter for Flapjacks, chicken salad, and more all for breakfast or lunch.
I dropped in the other day at 810 E. Venice Avenue, (the façade of the

Ed's note: Tom Brenner filed an extensive and thoughtful reply to the comp planning article. I think posting it as a Guest Blog will give his views more visability.

Tom Brenner, President of Venice Neighborhood Coalition weighs in on airport/comp plan development
Editor's Note: Tom Brenner sent this in as a comment on the comp plan article, but its complexity and topicality suggest that guest blog would be a more appropriate site for readers to notice his views.
Comments on the City’s Ongoing Review of the Comprehensive Plan, and suggested amendments regarding the Venice General Aviation Airport.
There exists a serious problem in the Comprehensive Plan (Draft) with respect to airport planning. Simply stated, airport pla

Producer of Car Talk Strikes Back
When asked about why Tom and Ray on Car Talk focus don't focus on problems of people in Florida who experience unexplained left-hand blinker problems, instead of on folks from Bend, Oregon with 15 year old Volvos with 250,000 miles on them, Car Talk Producer, Doug Berman, replies.

Council Show Vision of Venice in Comp Plan workshops
"Council is demonstrating quite clearly what it is trying to accomplish and how it is going to get there."
"General themes so far include maintaining Venice as a city of moderate and lower heights. That is a key aspect of its beauty, creating the feeling of openess and light."

Mayor Takes on "Car Talk"
Open Letter to “Car Talk”
Dear Tom and Ray, or Click and Clack,
I am concerned that your program is not fair and balanced, but rather caters to the problems of a certain class of listener—those who drive a 1992 Volvo with 250,000 miles on it, or a ninth hand Ford pickup, which makes funny noises when the battery is low. These people all live in Bend, Oregon or Madison, Wisconsin. Most are women whose husbands or fathers are opinionated if uninformed.

Airport Board Appointments Win Narrow Approval
For Greg Giles report go to www.venicegondolier.com
February 13th edition.
Technical difficulties, unknown, are keeping me from linking directly.
When the dust settled we have some good new faces on the AAB. The past members did well, it is no disrespect to them.
However, I feel the new members are more active in putting together a new airport layout plan at the citizen level for presentation to the City. Also it is my belief that the voters wanted to se

Council approves "new faces" on Airport Advisory Board.
During the February 12 meeting, Council approved the appointments of Walter Hake and Jim Marble to the Airport Advisory Board. They also approved the reappointment of Jim Leis.
All are people with a positive view of the airport, interested in safety and in developing an airport layout plan that avoids problems, if possible, in the proposed airport layout plan created by consultants and put on hold by the previous council on two occasions.

Columnist Eric Ernst on the Town Hall Meeting.
Eric Ernst shares his take on the Town Hall Meeting and asks what happens next?
What happens next is that we keep listening and using expanded public input to plan for the city's future.
There is lots on the agenda: the comprehensive plan for the city's future growth, various suggestions for fees, the airport master plan, and more. As the television show used to say, "Keep those cards and letters coming." (and speak up at workshops and council meetings.)
